Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is an American multinational holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, originally a nineteenth-century textile manufacturing business before Warren Buffett gained control of it in 1965 and transformed it into a diversified holding company. It owns and invests in businesses spanning insurance, railroads, utilities, manufacturing and consumer brands, and it is one of the largest companies in the world by market capitalization, widely studied for Buffett's long-term value-investing approach and his closely followed annual shareholder letters.
