Benetton Formula Limited, usually just called Benetton, was a Formula One constructor that took part in the world championship from 1986 to 2001. It was formed in 1985 when the Toleman team was sold to the Benetton family, who run a worldwide chain of clothing stores and had already sponsored Tyrrell, Alfa Romeo and Toleman in Formula One. The team was chaired by Alessandro Benetton from 1988 to 1998 and was based at Witney in Oxfordshire before it moved to a new factory near the village of Enstone. Its first win came in Mexico in 1986 with Gerhard Berger. It used BMW engines in 1986, Ford engines from 1987 to 1994 and Renault V10 engines from 1995. Renault bought the team in 2000, it raced as Benetton in 2000 and 2001, and in 2002 it became Renault.
