Becton, Dickinson and Company, commonly known as BD, is an American medical technology company headquartered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, one of the largest global makers of medical devices and diagnostic products. It was founded in 1897 by Maxwell Becton and Fairleigh Dickinson to manufacture hypodermic syringes and thermometers, and grew over the twentieth century into a broad medical device manufacturer. BD is a leading global producer of syringes, needles and injection devices, and its businesses also span diagnostic testing systems, infusion equipment and pharmaceutical systems used in drug delivery. The company played a prominent role in global vaccine syringe supply during the COVID-19 pandemic.
