Baxter International Inc. is an American healthcare company headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, a major supplier of intravenous therapies, kidney dialysis products, and other hospital-based medical products and equipment. It was founded in 1931 by Dr. Ralph Falk as Don Baxter Intravenous Products Corporation, one of the first companies to manufacture commercially prepared intravenous solutions, which until then were typically mixed by hospitals themselves and carried a significant risk of contamination. Baxter grew over the following decades into a broad healthcare products company, with particular strength today in renal care and dialysis products, intravenous and infusion therapies, and other equipment and supplies used across hospital and home care settings.
