Bakewell Glass is nineteenth century glassware made by a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania glassmaking company founded by Benjamin Bakewell in 1808. Operating under a succession of names including the Pittsburgh Glass Manufactory, Bakewell and Page, and Bakewell, Pears and Co, the firm produced luxurious and practical lead glass pieces for eighty years before closing in 1882. Benjamin Bakewell became known as the father of flint glass in America for consistently producing lead glass after Henry William Stiegel had first introduced the process in 1770.
