Avatar Studios is an American production company and a division of Nickelodeon Animation Studio. It was formed in February 2021, when ViacomCBS announced it at its annual Investor Day, to develop animated series and films set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. That franchise began with the animated television series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, which aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008 and was followed by the sequel series The Legend of Korra. Renewed interest after Nickelodeon licensed both series to Netflix in 2020 led the network to rebuild its relationship with the two creators, who now serve as the division's co-chief creative officers and report to the president of Nickelodeon Animation Studio. Its first project was the animated film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, released on Paramount+ in July 2026, and further series were announced, including one directed by Konietzko.
