AutoAlliance International was the joint venture of Mazda and Ford that ran the assembly plant at Flat Rock, Michigan from 1992 until 2012. Mazda opened the plant in 1987 as Mazda Motor Manufacturing USA, its first factory in the United States, and Ford bought half of it in 1992. The plant built the Mazda MX-6, the Ford Probe, the Mazda 626, the Mercury Cougar and the North American Mazda6, and added the Ford Mustang in 2005. Ford took full control in 2012 and renamed the site the Flat Rock Assembly Plant.
