ASEA (Allmanna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget) was a Swedish electrical engineering and equipment manufacturer founded in 1883 in Vasteras, Sweden, and a central player in the electrification of Scandinavia through generators, motors and power-transmission technology, including early high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. In 1988 it merged with the Swiss company Brown, Boveri & Cie to form Asea Brown Boveri (ABB), one of the world's largest engineering conglomerates.
