ASCII Media Works is a Japanese publisher and brand company of Kadokawa Future Publishing, headquartered in Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku, Tokyo. It formed on April 1, 2008, when MediaWorks legally absorbed ASCII Corporation, although Kiyoshi Takano, the former president and chief executive of ASCII, became its first president and chief executive. The merger aimed to join ASCII expertise in computing and information technology with MediaWorks expertise in entertainment media such as anime, manga, light novels and video games. In April 2011 its video game division was merged into Kadokawa Games, and on October 1, 2013 it became an internal division of Kadokawa Corporation. The company publishes books, entertainment and computer magazines, manga and video games, and is best known for its Dengeki brand magazines and imprints, including Dengeki Daioh, Dengeki G's Magazine and the light novel imprint Dengeki Bunko, as well as IT titles such as Weekly ASCII. It also runs yearly contests for original novels and manga, such as the Dengeki Novel Prize.
