Armenpress is the oldest and main state news agency of Armenia, founded on 18 December 1918 by the First Republic of Armenia's government as the Armenian Telegraph Agency, with Simon Vratsian playing a key role in its creation. Renamed several times after Armenia's Sovietization in 1920, including Armenkavrosta, Armenrosta and Armenta, before adopting its current name in 1972, it operated under Communist Party control through the Soviet era and today maintains partnerships with Reuters, TASS and Xinhua as a member of the Black Sea Association of National News Agencies.
