American Motors Corporation, commonly called AMC or American Motors, was an American automobile manufacturer formed by the merger of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company on May 1, 1954, at the time the largest corporate merger in United States history. Its competitors of similar size included Studebaker, Packard, Kaiser Motors and Willys-Overland, while the Big Three of Ford, General Motors and Chrysler were its largest rivals. The product line featured small cars such as the Rambler American and later the Javelin. AMC was renamed Jeep Eagle Corporation and merged into Chrysler in 1990.
