Thorbrau is one of the oldest breweries in Germany, founded in 1582 in Augsburg, Bavaria. Its beer is brewed to a standard that is not part of the national Reinheitsgebot but of Augsburg's own beer purity laws, set since 1516, which hold that no version of the beer may be brewed using inferior ingredients.
