A network orchestrator is a company that creates and coordinates a network of peers who interact with and share in the value the network creates, whether by selling products or services, building relationships, sharing advice or reviews, or collaborating and co-creating with one another. Examples commonly cited for the model include eBay, Red Hat, Visa, Uber, Tripadvisor, and Alibaba. The concept grew out of organizational behavior research on interfirm networks beginning in the early 1990s, and the term itself came into use in the early 2000s to describe this style of business.
