Michael Eugene Porter is an American businessman and Harvard Business School professor, born 23 May 1947 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He co-founded the Monitor Group consulting firm and the FSG social impact consultancy, and he developed Porter's five forces analysis, a foundational framework in strategic management. He is generally regarded as the father of the modern strategy field and as one of the world's most influential business strategists, known also for the value chain analysis and generic strategies framework set out in his books Competitive Strategy and Competitive Advantage.
