Austrian-American industrial and organizational psychologist known for his work on leadership and contingency theory. In 1967 he introduced the contingency model of leadership, later known as the Fiedler contingency model, holding that the most effective leadership style depends on the leader's personality and the degree of control and influence the situation gives them.
