FAQs

Who owns IKEA and who owns the IKEA brand?

IKEA is a franchise system. The brand owner Inter IKEA Systems and the store operator Ingka Group are separate groups with different owners.

Ownership is split between two separate groups. Ingka Group, based in Leiden in the Netherlands, runs IKEA stores as one of 12 franchisees under franchise agreements with Inter IKEA Systems B.V., which owns the IKEA Concept and is the worldwide IKEA franchisor. Ingka Group itself is owned by a Dutch foundation, Stichting INGKA Foundation, which has no owners of its own, so no private shareholders receive dividends. Inter IKEA Group and Ingka Group share a founder and a history but have different management and different owners. Franchisees pay Inter IKEA Systems a franchise fee of 3 percent of their net sales.
