Timber magnate William Boeing founded it in Seattle, Washington in 1916 as the Pacific Aero Products Co., and it grew into one of the world's largest aircraft manufacturers. Boeing moved its corporate headquarters from Seattle to Chicago in 2001 and from Chicago to Arlington, Virginia in 2022, while retaining major commercial airplane manufacturing operations in the Seattle area.
