The Rubik's Cube is a three-dimensional combination puzzle invented by Hungarian architecture professor Erno Rubik in 1974, originally called the Magic Cube before being licensed for mass production by the Ideal Toy Corporation and renamed for its inventor in 1980. It became one of the best-selling toys and puzzles in history and, alongside its many licensed and unlicensed variants, gave rise to the competitive sport of speedcubing, with the World Cube Association organizing competitions for solving it and related puzzles as quickly as possible.
