Seaweed fertiliser

Seaweed fertiliser is an organic fertilizer made from seaweed, used in agriculture to raise soil fertility and encourage plant growth, applied either as a liquid extract or as a dried, pulverized material. The practice of using seaweed to fertilize land has ancient roots but declined sharply once synthetic fertilizers became available in the 1920s, before commercial interest revived with the 1947 launch of the kelp liquid fertilizer Maxicrop. Seaweed-derived fertilisers and soil additives still make up under 1 percent of the overall value of the global seaweed aquaculture industry, but the sector is growing as demand for organic farming inputs increases.
