The Honeywell Round, also sold as the T87, is a circular household thermostat first manufactured by Honeywell in 1953, designed by Henry Dreyfuss from a concept by Honeywell engineer Carl Kronmiller. Dreyfuss began the design in 1943 after observing that rectangular thermostats often hung crooked on a wall, and gave the Round a simple twist dial for temperature adjustment along with a removable cover that owners could paint to match a room. Honeywell sold about a million T87 units a year according to a 1995 company history, and in 1997 the design was exhibited at the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. It remains one of the most widely used thermostats in the world.
