Vegetable

Vegetables are edible parts of plants consumed by humans or other animals as food, a term historically applied broadly to all edible plant matter including flowers, fruits, stems, leaves, roots, and seeds. In everyday culinary and cultural use the definition narrows somewhat arbitrarily: it can include savory fruits such as tomatoes and squash and flowers such as broccoli, while excluding some other foods that come from fruits, flowers, nuts, and cereal grains.
