Google Initial Public Offering

Initial Public Offerings

Google became a public company on August 19, 2004, opening on the Nasdaq National Market under the ticker symbol GOOGL. The company offered 19,605,052 shares at $85 each, using an online Dutch auction bidding system built by underwriters Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse rather than a traditional fixed price allocation. The sale raised $1.67 billion, giving Google a market capitalization of more than $23 billion and making cofounders Larry Page and Sergey Brin two of the wealthiest people in the technology industry.
