General Electric Breakup

General Electric announced in November 2021 that it would split into three independent public companies focused on aviation, healthcare and energy, unwinding more than a century of conglomerate structure built by leaders from Thomas Edison to Jack Welch. The healthcare unit (GE HealthCare) separated in January 2023 and the energy unit (GE Vernova) in April 2024, leaving the original company renamed GE Aerospace, a restructuring aimed at reversing years of underperformance and heavy debt following the 2008 financial crisis.
