Spire Inc. is an American natural gas utility holding company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The company was formed in 2016 when The Laclede Group, whose predecessor Laclede Gas Company had distributed natural gas in the St. Louis area since the nineteenth century, renamed itself Spire after expanding its utility operations beyond Missouri into Alabama. Spire is not connected to Spire Global, an unrelated satellite data company of a similar name; Spire Inc. remains a conventional regulated natural gas distribution utility serving residential and business customers across its two-state territory.
