AES Corporation

AES Corporation is an American multinational power generation and utility company headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. It was founded in 1981 as Applied Energy Services by Roger Sant and Dennis Bakke, initially to develop independent, non-utility power generation projects at a time when United States regulation was first opening electricity generation to private competition. AES grew into a global power company that both generates electricity through owned power plants, including growing renewable energy and battery storage capacity, and, through subsidiaries, operates regulated electric utilities serving retail customers in several countries.
