Vonovia SE is a German residential real estate company headquartered in Bochum, formed in 2001 out of housing portfolios connected to the former state railway company Deutsche Bahn and later restructured and listed publicly in 2013 under the Vonovia name. It grew through acquisitions including Deutsche Wohnen in 2021 into the largest private residential real estate company in Germany and one of the largest in Europe, owning several hundred thousand residential units.
