The industry that provides drinking water and wastewater services, including sewage treatment, to residential, commercial and industrial customers, typically through public utilities that manage water supply networks. It also encompasses water engineering, plant construction, equipment supply and specialized water treatment chemicals, serving other industries such as beverage production, though the water industry itself excludes bottled water manufacturers, who belong to the food and beverage sector instead.
