Wacker Chemie AG is a German multinational specialty chemicals company headquartered in Munich. It was founded in 1914 by Alexander Wacker as a maker of acetylene-derived chemicals and building materials, and it later became a pioneer in silicone chemistry and polysilicon production. Wacker today is organized around silicones, polymer binders, biotechnology and hyperpure polysilicon used in semiconductor and solar cell manufacturing, and the company remains substantially controlled by descendants of its founding family.
