Cray Inc. is an American supercomputer manufacturer headquartered in Seattle, Washington, and a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which acquired it in 2019 for 1.3 billion dollars. It also makes systems for data storage and analytics. Seymour Cray founded the company in 1972 as Cray Research, Inc., and it continues to manufacture parts in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, where he was born and raised. Silicon Graphics acquired it in 1996, and the modern company formed after Tera Computer Company bought it in 2000 and adopted the name Cray Inc. As of June 2025, Cray systems held the top three spots in the TOP500 ranking.
