Splunk Inc. is an American software company founded in 2003 and headquartered in San Francisco, known for software that searches, monitors and analyzes machine-generated data such as server logs and security event records at large scale. Splunk's platform became widely used for IT operations monitoring, security information and event management, and broader business analytics built on top of that log data. In March 2024 Splunk was acquired by the networking company Cisco Systems, becoming a Cisco business unit rather than a separately traded public company.
