The Liverpool Overhead Railway was an overhead railway that operated along the Liverpool Docks in England from 1893, using lightweight electric multiple units. It set a number of world firsts, including being the first electric elevated railway, the first to use automatic signalling and electric colour light signals, and one of the first railway stations with a passenger escalator; it was the second-oldest electric metro system in the world, preceded only by London's City and South London Railway of 1890.
