IMI plc

IMI plc, formerly Imperial Metal Industries Limited, is a British engineering company headquartered in Birmingham, England, specialising in control valves and fluid control systems. It was founded in 1862 by the Scottish entrepreneur George Kynoch, who opened a percussion cap factory in Witton, West Midlands, trading initially as Kynoch, and it has since evolved from ammunition and metallurgy into industrial automation, process control and climate management. IMI operates across five sectors, including process automation, industrial automation, climate control, life science applications and transport systems, employing about 10,000 people and reporting 2025 revenue of 2.3 billion pounds and net income of 309.9 million pounds. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange as a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
