The Spokane International Railroad was built in 1887 as the Spokane International Railway by the businessman Daniel Chase Corbin with financing from the Canadian Pacific Railway, connecting Spokane, Washington to Kingsgate, British Columbia over about 190 miles and linking the Union Pacific Railroad with the Canadian Pacific. It was reorganized under its current name in 1941. The Union Pacific Railroad took control in 1958 and formally merged the company into its own corporate structure on December 31, 1987, and the line still operates today as Union Pacific's Spokane Subdivision.
