Quebec Central Railway

The Quebec Central Railway was incorporated in 1869 as the Sherbrooke, Eastern Townships and Kennebec Railway and took its current name in 1875, eventually operating about 580 kilometers of track through Quebec's Eastern Townships south of the St. Lawrence River and into Vermont. The Canadian Pacific Railway leased it for 99 years beginning in 1912. Passenger service ended in April 1967 and freight service in November 1994; after the line was abandoned that December, a local operator revived it for tourism and freight from 2000 until operations ceased again in 2006, and its remaining sections now belong to Quebec's transportation ministry.
