The North-South Railway, or Ferrovia Norte-Sul (designated EF-151), is a Brazilian longitudinal broad-gauge railroad built to connect the country's major ports and production areas, with construction beginning in 1987, its first section opening in 1996, and the line becoming fully operational in June 2023 after nearly four decades of development. Its 1,600-millimeter gauge track presently runs 2,184 kilometers between Acailandia, Maranhao, and Estrela d'Oeste, Sao Paulo, out of a total planned 4,155 kilometers, with trains running at up to 83 kilometers per hour carrying primarily soybeans, cellulose and fuels. VLI Multimodal S.A. operates the Maranhao-Tocantins section from Acailandia to Porto Nacional, while Rumo Logistica operates the Tocantins-Sao Paulo section from Porto Nacional to Estrela d'Oeste, connecting to other major Brazilian railways and to ports including Santos and Itaqui.
