Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles del Peru

Empresa Nacional de Ferrocarriles del Peru, known as ENAFER, was a state-owned company created by decree on September 19, 1972 to manage and commercially operate Peru's railway network, formed by nationalizing several foreign-owned railway operators. It ran the Ferrocarril Central Andino serving Lima and the Ferrocarril del Sur connecting to the Pacific coast, together spanning about 1,886 kilometers of mostly standard-gauge single track, including the Galera railway station, historically the world's highest-altitude railway station at 4,781 meters. The company has since been privatized.
