Central Northern Railway

The Central Northern Railway was an Argentine railway formally inaugurated on October 30, 1876 by President Nicolas Avellaneda, extending British-owned Central Argentine Railway trackage northward from Cordoba to Tucuman and beyond on 1,000 millimeter metre gauge track, eventually reaching about 7,500 kilometers across Tucuman, Formosa, Chaco, Santiago del Estero and Salta provinces. When Argentina nationalized its rail network in 1948 under President Juan Peron, the company was absorbed into the state-owned General Belgrano Railway, though some of its historic lines remain in service.
