Vietnam Railways

Vietnam National Railways, known as Vietnam Railways (VNR), is the state-owned operator of Vietnam's rail network, headquartered in Hanoi. Its backbone is the roughly 1,727-kilometer, single-track North-South Railway linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, originally built in metre gauge during French colonial rule in the 1880s; the company also runs standard-gauge connections to China and mixed-gauge track around Hanoi. The North-South passenger journey takes around 29 to 34 hours and offers hard-seat, soft-seat and several sleeper classes, serving both everyday travelers and tourists visiting coastal towns along the route. The company operates several hundred diesel and steam locomotives together with hundreds of passenger coaches and thousands of freight cars across a network of roughly 3,160 kilometers.
