Sabah State Railway

The Sabah State Railway is the railway system and operator of the Malaysian state of Sabah, established in 1896 as the North Borneo Railway and owned by the State Government of Sabah under its Ministry of Industrial Development, Trade, Entrepreneurship and Transport. It is the only rail transport system on the island of Borneo, running a single 134-kilometre line between Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu and Tenom that carries both passengers and freight. The line underwent modernization with concrete sleeper replacement between 2006 and 2007 and reopened its Tanjung Aru to Beaufort section on February 21, 2011, and it has continued acquiring new diesel multiple units and pursuing rehabilitation work jointly with Malaysia's national railway operator, KTMB.
