Burma Mines Railway

The Burma Mines Railway was built and operated by the Burma Mines, Railway and Smelting Co Ltd, a company founded in March 1906 to carry locally mined silver and lead ore roughly 80 kilometers from Namyao to a smelter at Namtu, in what is now Myanmar, on a 2 foot gauge line. The company built its own headquarters and workshops at Namtu. After the First World War the local Burma Corporation Ltd took over the railway's operations, continuing to run it in support of the Namtu mining and smelting works for decades, with steam locomotives remaining in use into the 1970s and 1980s.
