Turkish State Railways

Turkish State Railways, known by its Turkish initials TCDD, is Turkey's government-owned national railway company, headquartered in Ankara, responsible for the country's railway infrastructure. It was established on June 4, 1929, when the young Turkish Republic nationalized rail lines that had previously been run by foreign operators. TCDD's network spans more than 12,500 kilometers, among the world's larger railway systems, and the company also owns and operates seven major ports handling roughly 30 percent of Turkey's port traffic. In 2017 its train-operating functions were transferred to a subsidiary, TCDD Tasimacilik, leaving TCDD itself as the infrastructure owner and operator, with commuter services in Istanbul and Ankara and nearly 150 million passenger journeys recorded in 2019.
