TransNamib

TransNamib Holdings Limited is a state-owned Namibian transport holding company based in Windhoek, providing freight and passenger rail services along with road freight. It took over the national rail network after Namibian independence from the South African Railways, on infrastructure dating to the German colonial period, when the 383 kilometer line between Swakopmund and Windhoek opened on June 19, 1902. The company runs the network on 1,067 millimeter Cape gauge track, with freight as its primary business and passenger service continuing under the Starline brand; it expanded the system through the Northern Extension project and formerly ran the Desert Express tourist train until its closure in 2020.
