The Ottoman Railway Company, commonly known as the Izmir-Aydin Railway, built the oldest railway in Anatolia and the second oldest railway in the Ottoman Empire. A British company built the line to carry mineral and fruit traffic from the Aydin plain to the Port of Izmir for export.
