Central South African Railways

Central South African Railways was the operator of public railways in the Transvaal Colony and the Orange River Colony, established in July 1902 from the Imperial Military Railways set up after the Second Boer War, under the leadership of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Percy Girouard with Thomas Rees Price as general manager. It succeeded several earlier railway companies taken over during the war, including the Orange Free State Government Railways and the Netherlands-South African Railway Company. In 1910 it merged with the Cape Government Railways and the Natal Government Railways to form the South African Railways, the ancestor of today Transnet Freight Rail.
