Swan Hunter, formerly Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson and originally C. S. Swan and Hunter, is a shipbuilding design, engineering and management company based in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, England. At its height it combined the forces of three powerful shipbuilding families, Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson. It was responsible for some of the greatest ships of the early twentieth century, most famously RMS Mauretania, which held the Blue Riband for the fastest Atlantic crossing, and RMS Carpathia, which rescued survivors of the Titanic. Swan Hunter stopped building vessels on Tyneside in 2006 but continues to provide design engineering services.
