The Royal Mint is the United Kingdoms official maker of British coins, currently located in Llantrisant, Wales, where it moved in 1968. Its origins trace back to around the year 886, with a unified minting system established in 1279, though the organization took its present legal form as a limited company on December 31, 2009. The Royal Mint produces coins for circulation, commemorative coins, medals and precious metal products including bullion bars and coins, and also operates a precious metals recovery facility. It is wholly owned by His Majestys Treasury and operates under an exclusive contract to supply the United Kingdoms coinage.
