Komatsu Ltd. is a Japanese multinational maker of construction, mining and military equipment headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1921 in the city of Komatsu in Ishikawa Prefecture, from which the company takes its name, originally as a manufacturing offshoot of a local copper mining business. Komatsu is the second-largest maker of construction and mining equipment in the world after Caterpillar, producing bulldozers, excavators, mining trucks and related heavy machinery, and it has built a large international manufacturing and sales presence well beyond Japan.
