William Patterson Shipbuilders was a major shipbuilder in Bristol, England, during the nineteenth century and an innovator in ship construction. The yard produced both the SS Great Western, an early transatlantic steamship, and the SS Great Britain, along with fine-lined yachts and a small number of warships. Founded in 1830 and closed in 1869, it worked beside the River Avon and is remembered chiefly for these two Brunel-era vessels that shaped the development of the oceangoing steamship.
