Union Pacific Corporation is an American railroad holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, whose principal subsidiary, Union Pacific Railroad, was chartered by the United States Congress in 1862 to build the eastern portion of the first transcontinental railroad, completed in 1869 at Promontory Summit, Utah. It operates one of the largest freight railroad networks in the United States, serving the western two-thirds of the country and connecting with Mexican rail networks.
