Caterpillar Inc. is an American heavy equipment manufacturer formed in 1925 by the merger of the Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Company, both California makers of track-type tractors. It is the world's largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, alongside diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines, widely recognized by its yellow-painted machinery. The company moved its headquarters from Deerfield, Illinois to Irving, Texas in 2022.
